Honesty and Truth

  1. It is not necessary that if an individual is honest, then his or her speech consistent with the truth. In other words, it is possible that an individual is honest but his or her speech is inconsistent with the truth.

  2. It is also not necessary that if an individual is dishonest, then his or her speech is inconsistent with the truth. In other words, it is possible that an individual is dishonest but his or her speech is consistent with the truth.

Honesty and Belief

  1. However, it is necessary that if an individual is honest, then his or her speech is consistent with his or her belief. In other words, it is not possible that an individual is honest but his or her speech is inconsistent with his or her belief.

  2. It is also necessary that if an individual is dishonest, then his or her speech is inconsistent with his or her belief. In other words, it is not possible that an individual is dishonest but his or her speech is consistent with his or her belief.

Criticism and Praise

  1. If I am criticised, then I must remember that it is possible that an individual is honest but his or her speech is inconsistent with the truth. I must also remember that it is necessary that if the individual is honest, then his or her speech is consistent with his or her belief.

  2. If I am praised, then I must remember that it is possible that an individual is dishonest but his or her speech is consistent with the truth. I must also remember that it is necessary that if the individual is dishonest, then his or her speech is inconsistent with his or her belief.
